Here is our playdough recipe
3 cups Flour
1/2 cup Salt
6 teaspoons Cream of Tartar*
2 cups water**
3 Tablespoons Oil
1 Tablespoon of vanilla extract (or other extract for scent)
Food coloring- Wilton's cake icing colors work really well
Mix. Using a wooden spoon, cook on medium/low heat until dough forms a ball, it will be sticky. Keep stirring until ball is formed.
Should be played with warm, it's my favorite part!~ but check for hot spots. I usually knead it on the table until I don't feel hot spots and then give it to the children, it is awesome to use when it is still warm :-)
It will keep for weeks in a plastic container- how long varies with time of year and how much it is used, but 2-4 weeks is typical.
* Note- if you do not have the cream of tartar it will be a sticky mess
**Sometimes I use 3 cups of water-- you can experiment. Using 3 cups of water produces a really soft dough- but takes longer to cook.
