Thursday December 22 2011

We had a very busy day!  I need to thank Alanah and Phaedra for picking up the playroom during rest time. They did a fantastic job! :-)  Thank goodness too, because it looked like a cyclone had hit! I cleaned the kitchen while they put all the toys away!

For afternoon snack we made gingerbread houses. David and Brian pre-assembled the graham crackers. We used dried fruit this year, instead of candy, so that it would be a healthier treat :-)

Phaedra and Alanah asked that we make them again this year- and I am glad we did it was fun :-)

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!!

I feel so fortunate to have all of you in my life and I am so glad you all are here!

Brendan spoons the beans

Addison polishing

Phaedra polishing

They ask to do this, it is so cool :-)

Charli

Alanah loves animals and loves this book

Lelia pouring with the china tea set

Brendan stayed with this for a really long time

He did take a short break to play with some toys, but then came right back to it

Addison brings out the stacking toy

Brendan tries it out after Addison was done

Now Addison pours

Lelia washes the babies and Phaedra washes the toothpaste polish off of the metal bowls

The Boog is over by the door

Dried fruit instead of candy for our gingerbread houses

All set up and waiting for afternoon snack

I have to thank Dave and Brian for their building skills. I wasn't going to do this activity this year but Phaedra and Alanah requested it :-)

Time to decorate

I learned from previous years that they eat as much as they put on the house, so decided to make it snack :-)

Alanah poses next to her house

Charli was talking then started to yawn

In the playroom, Alanah spread the big mat and asked her friends to sit with her

Wednesday December 21 2011

Alanah making the alphabet train puzzle

Lelia with the foam shape puzzle and Phaedra with the fire truck puzzle

Addison with the number train puzzle

The girls

Lelia pouring Montessori-style

She has a tray for carrying and containing spills And a cloth to wipe up I always love the concentration and pleasure on the faces :-)

Meanwhile Boog checks out her sisters stuff

Addison pouring water The clear vessels allow the children a good view of what they're doing

Lots of focus and attention

Phaedra asked to polish

We use toothpaste- this is an excellent use for old tubes of toothpaste You can cut the tube into squares and there is a decent amount of toothpaste left inside

Lelia has moved on to pouring beans. First we started by spooning them but pouring was more interesting to her

Part of the process is self-correction. The child can see when a bean misses and fix the problem themselves, the tray contains any mess

Everyone at work with the Boog looking on

By having only one of each activity, the children practice patience and waiting. They gain a respect for each others turn as they themselves get the time and space to become fully involved with the activities

Lelia's turn to polish, not only did the metal shine but the room smelled  minty-fresh!

Addison's turn with the beans, she decides spooning is more challenging

Phaedra spoons the beans next

When transferring items we always start left to right- this aids with future reading, as they get used to beginning on the left

Addison waited a long time but finally "gets to" polish :-)

Addison takes lots of care with her task. Maria Montessori really observed children and what they enjoy

Lelia with the stacking shapes

Charlotte pulling playsilks from the basket

Addison with the knobless red cylinders

She used them up on the windowsill shelf, out of Boog's reach~ for now :-)
