David and Brian have been wanting to get a dog. I still  miss Sparky who we had for over 15 years and who we lost in November of 2011, so I've been ambivalent.

Dave contacted a breeder of Flat-Coated Retrievers, which is closest to what Sparky was. He was a rescue dog so it's hard to say if he was a pure bred, most likely not. When we were trying to figure out what breed he might be, we learned about the FCR dogs and they are most like him- so who knows? :-)

The breeder had a litter of 9 pups which were all spoken for, but she said sometimes people back out and she kept us on the list. She's been in touch for several weeks now, and yesterday she told us we will be getting a male puppy!

We can name him what we'd like but his official AKC name will be North Star. The litter has a theme of "Broadway Musicals" so we are thinking of "Ain't Misbehavin'" as his name for that (Apparently this is something breeders do- have themes for their litters)

The puppy will be ready in 2 weeks. The goal will be for him to be a "daycare dog" like Sparky was, but I'd like to introduce him slowly and have him spend most of  his time with Dave. We are excited!
The breed looks like a black furred, golden retriever, is smart and well behaved-- and has an incredibly sweet temperament :-)

Here are the photos she sent on May 6th when they were 6 weeks old
